BASTARD LORE
Sunday, May 6, 2012 at 8:31PM Saturday I had lunch with a good friend. After a meal of oceanic delights, french fries, or in my case grilled zucchini, we ran a few errands and then headed home. My home. We set on the back deck commiserating and sharing a candy bar (Snickers peanut butter?). The sun was warm. Time drifted. Two good ancient friends discussing existence – content with their place in the universe. As we talked consciousness drifted, and external reality slowly, inevitably, faded into the background. 40 min. later, apparently the result of some unknown external stimuli, we awoke. “What happened?”, We simultaneously queried. Weren't we discussing the limits of the Kindle app? We laughed. And as our hazy grasp on reality slowly cleared, we understood. It was a simple case of 2 old men sharing their obligatory afternoon nap. A most honest and pure aspect of brotherhood.
Damn, I'm getting old. We are getting old. It's strange how the realization creeps up on you. Every time you turn around life is giving you that knowing smile. I feel old but I don't feel old.
